March 25th is the feast of Marie Bebådelsedagen or Annunciation Day. That day was the day when the Archangel Gabriel announced to the Virgin Mary that she had been chosen to be the mother of Jesus. Swedes have found a great way of celebrating this day, we eat waffles! At the Museum we will celebrate Våffeldagen on Friday, March 26. Join the Museum on that day for delicious Swedish waffles. Anders Hultman will exhibit his native Gothenburg through intimate dream-like paintings that capture the warmth and musicality of his everyday life. The Museum proudly cross-collaborates with Chicago's International Sister-City, Gothenburg, and often highlights artists from that region of Sweden. Painting in oil, gouache, and acrylic Hultman brings his characters to life with old wooden houses and small gardens with blossoming fruit trees. A choose-your-own ending love story tap dance opera.
Chicago Tap Theatre will be presenting its first ever tap story-show where the audience will determine the fate of the tale. "LoveTaps" explores the concept of lonely singles searching for their soul-mates through internet dating, and what happens after those couples meet their on-line prospects in-person. During intermission, the audience will be able to decide which characters get to be paired up with each other, creating entirely different performances from night to night. LoveTaps runs March 19-21 and March 26-28 at the Theatre Building Chicago's South Stage (1225 W. Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60657). Fridays-Saturdays @ 8:00pm and Sundays @ 3:00pm. Question and answer sessions follow every Friday performance. Focus. Click. Flash! Explore the difference between how you see yourself and how others see you at the Neo-Futurists' winter production. Using still photography as both the medium and the message, deviser Greg Allen projects hundreds of photographs onto screens, objects, and the bodies of his two-person cast to illustrate issues of vulnerability and identity in the 21st century. Exercises in live photography enable cast and audience members to see life through the eyes of the other. Ranging from overhead projection to Polaroid snapshots to old-fashioned slide shows and digitally projected images of the performers, I AM A CAMERA utilizes every mode of photography to create a fascinatingly diverse visual experience. Swedish Cows: Slow Art, An Audiovisual Journey in Stillness is a mixture of artistic expression through the use of various mediums, including: glass, textile, photography, video, light, and sound.
